Reference image.

Painting from a colour scheme? Drop the reference photo into the viewport and keep it on screen while you paint.

// What it does

Adds a draggable, resizable, dimmable image overlay on top of the viewport. Doesn't affect the mesh. Use as a colour reference, layout reference, or pose reference.

Controls: Drag the header to move, drag a corner to resize, slider to dim. Drop another image to replace; close to dismiss.

// When to use it
  • Matching a brand/livery/colour scheme exactly (concept art, model-painter inspiration, photo of an existing print).
  • Sketching placement for a logo or paint-mask design.
  • Eyedropping won't work on the image — but it's invaluable as a visual reference.
// How to use it
  1. Panel footer → Reference image — pick a PNG or JPG. Or just drag-drop on the viewport.
  2. Drag the header to position top-right.
  3. Drag a corner to size down to a thumbnail.
  4. Slide the dimmer to ~50% so the mesh shows through.
// Tips
  • Eyedropper can't sample from the image. Use it as a visual reference; create matching palette colours with Add from library / Custom.
  • Reference covering the viewport? Resize it down. It's a sticky-note.
  • Reload to clear — the overlay isn't saved with the project.
